We both had the day off. It started with us waking up, and me doing the dishes while she fried up a package of bacon (which would be used later). Then we changed pace and stopped by my mom's ("former" -- long story, to be discussed later) to drop off and start some laundry. While that was going, we headed over to a local thrift store, Value Village, to look for useful props for my costume. We had basically no luck, there was a serious lack of ruffle shirts for me. I wanted to get that renaissance-era style shirt for my "vampirate" look. After that was a bust, we went to Pick 'N Save to get materials for our lunch we planned on cooking. We got some tasty donuts, much to my satisfaction. After we got the needed ingredients, we came home, and I played games while Sami showered. Then we made lunch, which was epic tasty. Sami prepared a caprici salad for us, and I made my club sandwich on sourdough LeBrea bread. Both turned out well, check out these pictures for proof:

The bread and butter pickles I added to my sandwich were the perfect touch in terms of taste and texture. It really popped out the flavors, and it was sweet, tangy, and a very crisp sandwich. I used maple ham and mesquite turkey!
We had noticed that a Blockbuster store nearby was having a store closing sale, so we dropped in there after lunch. Sami found the latest season of Family Guy for $20, which was a steal. We also got Across the Universe, which we've since watched half of. Interesting movie, and of course the music is great (the Beatles, if you didn't know). Next we went to Halloween USA, where I found some fangs and a nice headpiece made up of dreadlocks with beads, and a red skullcap. We both agreed it was the perfect prop for the image I was after. We headed up to Walmart to grab a few things we needed, but that ended up being a complete bust. We couldn't find a nice journal-type notebook there, or anything else we needed. Despite feeling unaccomplished in that way, we decided to stop in at Home Depot to try and find ourselves a plant, which we had been discussing for a while. As luck would have it, there was a big sale, and we got two manageable-sized houseplants that we subsequently named Lenny and Carl.
These last few tasks were a way for us to kill time before going to see District 9 in the budget theater. This ended up being a very strange movie. Neither of us knew what to expect before we went to see it, and it was definitely "different". Not a bad movie, per se, but quite unique. The presentation was done in a documentary format, which I thought was an interesting choice. If you think about it, it is a clever way to introduce someone to a topic which they know little about. A small warning though, there is a reasonable amount of gore in the film.
Afterward, we headed to Target and picked up a notebook that we dubbed "the dream notebook". We want it to contain a lot of things that we dream of having, and hopefully realistic goals. It's kind of broad and ambiguous, including anything from cars to vacations to home decor. We hope to start it officially tomorrow, actually. Next we had a nice dinner over at Buffalo Wild Wings, which was tasty as usual. They have a deal on traditional wings on Tuesdays, and we went once before.. both times were a treat. I have to say that so far, my favorite sauce is Caribbean Jerk. After our "day out", we came home, had coffee, and watched Iron Man. I loved the movie, and I was glad that I finally got the chance to see it. I want to be like Tony Stark!
So that was what happened on our lovely Tuesday last week. It was a real delight to be able to spend that much quality time with Sami, and it was a very memorable day for both of us. :]
